In 2006 President Bush Praised The Maker Of Crocs. Today They’re Going Bankrupt. Coincidence Or Not?

November 4, 2006: “One of the entrepreneurs with me today is Duke Hanson, the cofounder of a company called Crocs. Crocs produces a hugely popular line of lightweight shoes, and over the past three years, they’ve expanded dramatically. Three years ago, Crocs had just 11 employees. Today, Crocs provides jobs for hundreds of Americans, and his shoes are sold all over the world. Duke calls this, “rocket ship growth.” Here’s what he says: “We’re bringing a lot of money in. We’re employing people and providing a product that millions of people love.” http://georgewbush-whitehouse.archives.g…
July 16, 2009: “Last year the company lost $185.1 million, slashed roughly 2,000 jobs and scrambled to find money to pay down millions in debt. Now it’s stuck with a surplus of shoes, and its auditors have wondered if it can stay afloat. It has until the end of September to pay off its debt…”http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/con…

well, if you ask me, I do remember that they were really nice. But I don’t see them in regular shoe stores, not even in outlet strips unlike other brands.
Regular shoe stores sell whatever was the model or fad that was presented for the buyers. Not to mentionthe heavy imprtance placed on “deals” that these boyers are offered.
    So
the end result is that the buying public doe not get the shoe design from a small creative entrepreneur but from a shoe manufacturer who was told by his agents what to make, with what material and for a certain price.
Go to any shoe store and see for yourself. They all look the same with a bit of modification here and there.
To this day people still cannot find the “DREAM SHOES” WHICH ARE SOFT, WELL MADE, and comfortable.
As for Crocs company going under, businessmen will tell you smugly that the lesson to be learned here is the danger of overexpansion.
Many entrepreneurs go through this time and time again.
If they have a very good product, it will stand the test of time and an occasional set back like this.
They just might rise up and be what they used to be when the economy recovers.
